New HVO plant enters into operation in China

According to S&P Global Platts, last month, State-owned energy company Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection & New Materials launched a 400 ktons/year capacity HVO plant in Rizhao (Shandong, China) province. The biorefinery utilizes used cooking oil (UCO) and palm oil mill effluent (POME) as feedstocks. Type of post: OVERVIEW. Introduction Bioethanol produced from fermentation of sugar based crops is the major product of the biofuels industry [1]. But, ethanol is not a “drop-in” solution and requires substantial changes in refining or distribution infrastructure. The properties of this alcohol (an oxygenated single molecule) are largely different than those of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel blendstocks (mixtures of hydrocarbons), leading to problems in blends. Ethanol can cause corrosion problems in transport pipelines that were designed to work only with gasoline. In the specific case of the aviation fuel, there are stricter quality requirements than fuels used in road transport. Ethanol shows low compatibility as a blendstock for aviation fuel because of its high volatility and water absorption and low flash point and energy density. Tras estudiar el bio-PE en la anterior entrada, voy a centrarme ahora en o tro miembro prominente del grupo de las bio-poliolefinas: el bio-polipropileno (bio-PP). El PP es uno de los plásticos más utilizados en el mundo sólo por detrás del PE . Se trata de es un polímero termoplástico con una gran capacidad para ser procesado por moldeo por inyección. En los últimos años se ha visto incrementado fuertemente el rango de aplicaciones en las que puede usar: fibras textiles, piezas para automoción , sistemas de tuberías o material médico. Ello se debe a la versatilidad de características que se puede alcanzar actuando sobre la cadena polimérica a nivel molecular y haciendo elecciones específicas en las condiciones del proceso de fabricación.
